Kaleiçi, Edirne
A quiet stay between the stone walls of a historic mansion, within walking distance of the city centre.
Most people looking for accommodation in Edirne want the same three things: to be close to Kaleiçi, the old town, to sleep well and to start the day with an unhurried breakfast. Komşu Konak offers that balance in the courtyard of a historic red-and-white mansion at İzmir Caddesi No 18, Mithat Paşa Mahallesi. The Ali Paşa Bazaar is about 5 minutes away on foot, the Selimiye Mosque 12–15 minutes.
Every stay includes a Turkish spread breakfast served between 09:00 and 13:00; see our Turkish breakfast in Edirne page for what comes to the table. In good weather it is laid out in the vine-covered courtyard, on cool or rainy days under the glass roof or in the stone-walled hall. The Selimiye Mosque (Mimar Sinan, 1568–1574; UNESCO World Heritage, 2011) and the historic bazaars are a short morning walk away.
This is not a chain property but a small guesthouse with only a few rooms. There is no large lobby, no corridor of identical doors and no car park floor; instead there is a brick-arched courtyard, shuttered wooden windows, a wooden staircase and lounges with antique armchairs. If you are comparing hotels in Edirne, think of it as the old-town alternative: a historic home rather than a building made for tour groups.
In Kaleiçi, walking distance to Selimiye and the bazaars.
Turkish spread breakfast 09:00–13:00 with every stay.
A vine-covered courtyard away from the city noise.
A small team that welcomes every guest like a neighbour.
Breakfast is included with every room and served each morning from 09:00 to 13:00. Local cheeses, olives, homemade jams, butter, honey, clotted cream (kaymak), tahini with grape molasses, eggs and fresh bread, pastries and börek form the core of the table; fruit and vegetables change with the season.
On a one- or two-night trip to Edirne, breakfast at the guesthouse means you do not have to look for a separate place in the morning. You will have sat in the courtyard and finished your tea before setting off for Selimiye and the bazaars.
There are four room types. The Standard room is 22 m² for two guests. The Deluxe room is 28 m² with a balcony. The Suite is 38 m² with a balcony and bathtub and sleeps three. The Family room is 42 m² and, with its sofa, is arranged for four. All rooms have Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a TV and a minibar.
We suggest the right combination for couples, families and small groups based on your numbers. Large tour groups and block bookings do not suit this scale. Rooms fill quickly at weekends, on public holidays and during Kırkpınar week, so it is best to send your dates early.
The guesthouse has no private car park. It sits on İzmir Caddesi on the outer edge of Kaleiçi, so finding a space on the street or in the side streets is usually easy and you do not need to drive into the narrow inner lanes. Once the car is parked, the city is best explored on foot.
For groups, combining room types works best. Single-night transit stays are welcome; just let us know in advance about a late arrival or an early departure.
By road, Istanbul to Edirne is about 230–238 km depending on the source; the Turkish Highways data gives 232 km for the fastest route. On the O-3 (TEM) motorway it takes 2.5–3.5 hours depending on traffic. An overnight stop in Edirne makes sense if you want to break this drive or rest after crossing the border.
The Kapıkule border gate (to Bulgaria) is about 17–19 km from the centre, a 15–20 minute drive. Pazarkule (to Greece) is about 5–7 km away via Karaağaç. Kaleiçi is a practical base for both crossings and for the city centre.
After breakfast, the Ali Paşa Bazaar, the Old Mosque (Eski Cami), the Bedesten, the Üç Şerefeli Mosque and the Selimiye line up along one walking route, all within about 15 minutes on foot. In the afternoon you can add Saraçlar Caddesi or walk roughly 2 km to the Meriç Bridge.
Accommodation, breakfast, our Edirne old town cafe and restaurant, events and a photoshoot venue share the same address. Guests who stay the night sit at the same breakfast table as visitors from outside, and a small engagement, birthday or celebration in the courtyard can be arranged through our Edirne event venue page.
