Edirne Family Stay: Travelling with Children in Kaleiçi

When it comes to a family stay in Edirne, room size, a space where children can play and short walking distances come before everything else. Our guesthouse in Kaleiçi has a 42 m² Family room for four, a lawned courtyard with swings and breakfast included; the bazaar is about 5 minutes and the Selimiye 12–15 minutes away on foot.

Room layout for families in Edirne

The Family room is 42 m² and, with its sofa, is arranged for four. For a family of three, the 38 m² Suite with a balcony and a bathtub also works. For larger families we can reserve two rooms together; we check availability for your dates. Mention any request for a cot or an extra bed when you book.

The table below summarises the most practical layout by family size. We confirm the exact arrangement together based on the dates, the children's ages and the number of people.

A courtyard with swings: room for children to breathe

The lawned courtyard and garden swings are the children's favourite corner. While adults drink tea under the arbour, children can play in sight. There is no entertainment programme or kids' club; the courtyard is the size of a home garden and quiet for that reason.

The decorative carriage and lanterns by the door also catch children's attention and are among the best-loved corners of the house for a family photo. On a rainy day the glass-roofed section offers a sheltered place to sit while looking outside.

Family breakfast

Breakfast is served from 09:00 to 13:00 and included in your stay. Cheeses, eggs, jams and warm pastries that children also enjoy are on the table; details are on our Turkish breakfast in Edirne page. There is no fixed children's menu; let us know about any allergy or dietary restriction in advance.

Mornings with children usually start early or run late. A four-hour breakfast window gives families that flexibility; if you need to leave early, just let us know the evening before.

What to do in Edirne with children?

As central Edirne is made of short distances, it is not tiring for families with children. The covered corridors of the Ali Paşa Bazaar can be explored even on a rainy day, and the wide courtyard of the Selimiye is a place where children can run. The banks of the Meriç and Tunca rivers suit walking and cycling in the open air.

Museums are a good option for a day with children; the health museum in the Complex of Bayezid II is one of them and is a short drive away. Opening hours can change, so confirm before you go.

  • Ali Paşa Bazaar: about 5 min on foot, covered and shaded
  • Selimiye Mosque courtyard: 12–15 min on foot
  • Around the Macedonian Tower: 5–7 min on foot
  • Meriç Bridge and riverside: about 2 km, 25–30 min

Edirne walks at a child's pace, and parking

Thanks to the short distances, it is possible to come back to the guesthouse to rest at midday; this is the biggest convenience for families with small children. The grid streets of Kaleiçi are flat and short, and walking with a pushchair is fine in most places; around the historic buildings there are occasionally stone surfaces and thresholds.

The guesthouse has no private car park. As it is on İzmir Caddesi, families arriving by car usually find a space easily on the street or nearby, and luggage can be unloaded close to the door. All the details of the location are on our Edirne city centre stay page.

The best time and budget for Edirne with the family

Spring and autumn are the most enjoyable seasons, when children can play comfortably in the courtyard and the city can be explored on foot. During school holidays, the semester break, weekends and Kırkpınar week the Family room fills up quickly; we recommend sending your dates early.

As of October 2026, room rates per night around Kaleiçi range from about 2,000 to 8,000 Turkish lira depending on the season and demand. For a family of four, a single Family room is usually more practical and economical than two separate rooms; budget tips are on our Edirne budget stay page. Ask for the current price with your dates.

Discussing the small things families with babies may need in advance avoids surprises on arrival day.

Is there a play area for children?+

There is a lawned courtyard with garden swings; children can play in sight of the adults. There is no kids' club, entertainment programme or playroom. The courtyard is the size of a home garden and quiet for that reason; on rainy days the glass-roofed section offers a sheltered seating area.

What to do in Edirne with children?+

The covered corridors of the Ali Paşa Bazaar, the wide courtyard of the Selimiye, the area around the Macedonian Tower and a walk along the Meriç are suitable stops for families with children. Is breakfast suitable for children?+

The table has cheeses, eggs, jams and warm pastries that children also enjoy. There is no fixed children's menu. If there is an allergy, a gluten-free diet or another restriction, let us know in advance and we will make whatever arrangement is possible. Can I get around Kaleiçi with a pushchair?+

In most places, yes. The grid streets of Kaleiçi are flat and short; the line to the bazaars and the Selimiye can be walked with a pushchair. Around historic buildings there are occasionally stone surfaces, thresholds and steps. At the guesthouse, rooms are reached by a wooden staircase and there is no lift; please take this into account when planning.

Where do we park if we come by car?+

The guesthouse has no private car park. It is on İzmir Caddesi on the outer edge of Kaleiçi; finding a space on the street or nearby is usually easy. You can unload luggage close to the door and, once the car is parked, explore the city on foot.

Can two rooms be booked next to each other?+

Subject to availability, yes. For large families or two families travelling together, we can reserve the Family room together with the Suite or a Standard room.
